olim Echo conspexit flavum iuvenem qui captabat cervos in silva.	One day Echo caught sight of a golden-haired youth who was hunting deer in the forest.
iuvenis, nomine Narcissus, erat pulcherrimus et omnes, postquam viderunt eum, statim amaverunt eum.	The youth, Narcissus by name, was very handsome and everybody, after the saw him, immediately loved him.
sed Narcissus ignorabat omnes quod erat arrogantissimus.	But Narcissus would ignore everybody because he was very arrogant

Echo, quae maxime amabat Narcissum, furtim agitavit eum per silvam.	Echo, who greatly loved Narcissus, stealthily pursued him through the forest.
tandem Narcissus audivit nympham, vertit, et clamavit, “quis est?”	Finally Narcissus heard the nymph, turned, and shouted, “Who is it?”
Echo, quae celabat post arborem, modo poterat reiterare ultimum verbum, “est?”	Echo, who was hiding behind a tree, only was able to reiterate the final word, “Is it?”

Background Story:


Narcissus looked about in wonder, “Who are you? Come to me!” he said.  Narcissus searched the woods, but could not find the nymph. “Stop hiding! I want to meet you!” he shouted.  “You” Echo cried. Then she stepped from behind the tree and rushed to embrace Narcissus. 

But the youth panicked when the nymph flung her arms around his neck. He pushed her away and shouted, “Leave me alone! I’d rather die than let you love me!”  “Love me!” was all poor Echo could say as she watched Narcissus run from her through the woods. “Love me! Love me! Love me!” 

Humiliated and filled with sorrow, Echo wandered the mountains until she found a lonely cave to live in.
